Making an Impact locally
As a dog trainer with 7+ years of experience working within a sheltering/humane education environment, I learned that one of the toughest experiences for dogs, their adoptive families, & the shelter staff that care for the dogs, occurs when the excitement of a new family member is dashed by unexpected behavioral concerns. Communication issues between dogs and their people leave families questioning whether adopting the dog was the right choice in the first place. These issues can range from minor communication barriers between dogs and their owners and adjustments to life within a home environment to more serious issues, such as fearful or protective aggression. No matter how severe, communication barriers, coupled with the additional financial stress of working with an expensive dog trainer, after already taking on basic dog care expenses, causes many to feel that the obstacle cannot be overcome.

Our unique approach
I started Gould’s Dog Behavior & Training with the goal of keeping dogs and their adoptive family members together by providing all of Maine’s communities with an approachable, affordable, traveling, positive reinforcement dog behaviorist. I truly care about keeping families together through problem solving, training, management, & patience. I am highly skilled in addressing a wide range of behavioral issues including
• Shy/fearful behaviors and anxiety, touch sensitivity
• Over-arousal behaviors, such as, jumping for attention, mouthing
• Housebreaking issues
• Leash biting, reactivity while on leash/barrier aggression, and more.
I believe that a human being’s rapport with their dog can be one of the most rewarding and special connections that we discover in life, as long as there is understanding and proper communication between them. I am committed to identifying solutions and training programs to make this goal a reality for all my clients and their dogs at fair and reasonable costs to meet any budget.

Many Satisfied Clients
I have worked with Mike Gould as a dog trainer and behaviorist for the last several years and I
cannot recommend him highly enough. He has been a turning point for many of my patients
over the years helping them and their families work through difficult behavior problems such as
fence & barrier reactivity, fear aggression, and general guarding of resources such as toys, food
and people in their homes. His work has led to countless success stories for those dogs and
their families. Additionally, he helped with both of my personal dogs to learn basic manners
and one in particular to manage her fear of strangers. My favorite thing about Mike is that he
develops his training and behavior plans based on the individual dogs’ personality and needs
instead of following a “one size fits all” approach.
